Prescriptions Explained
Please get in touch if you’re not clear on any of this information to get your glasses right.
You don’t have to fill in these fields, the easiest would be to upload your script from your eye test as part of the order, and we’ll do the rest. At the last page of checkout, there is an ‘upload file’ option.
OD (right eye) and OS (left eye) are the Sphere (SPH): values. This parameter indicates the degree of nearsightedness (negative value) or farsightedness (positive value) a person has. It represents the strength of the lens needed to correct the refractive error. 0 means no correction is needed.
Cylinder (CYL): The cylinder value indicates the presence of astigmatism, which is a condition where the cornea has an irregular shape. It measures the degree of astigmatism and provides information on the additional lens power required to correct it.
Axis: The axis is associated with the cylinder value and defines the orientation or angle of the astigmatism. It is measured in degrees and ranges from 0 to 180.
Pupillary Distance (PD): The pupillary distance measures the distance between the centers of the two pupils. It is needed for ensuring that the optical centers of the lenses align with the person’s pupils for optimal vision correction.
Add (ADD): The add power is specifically targeteted for individuals with presbyopia, an age-related condition that affects near vision. The add power represents the additional magnifying power required for close-up tasks.
Prism (PRISM): Prism is indicated if a person has a misalignment of the eyes. It measures the amount and direction of the prism correction needed to align the eyes properly.
Base: The base direction is associated with the prism correction and indicates the direction in which the prism is placed to correct the eye misalignment.
